With an Italian mother and a Dutch father who spent part of his childhood in Italy, it is no surprise that I feel deeply connected to this country. From its warm-hearted people and unmatched cuisine to the breathtaking landscapes and vibrant culture, Italy continues to inspire me — in life and in my work.

I am proud of my Italian roots. Italy to me means the strong bond of family, friendships that last a lifetime, with a kind of humor that is warm, lively, and full of mischief.

Mornings begin with a caffè — always piled high with sugar if made by my nonna Anna — and a fresh brioche or two on the side. The table fills with simple — but to me perfect! — plates of aglio, olio e peperoncino, homemade limoncello crafted by my brothers, and slices of focaccia shared on slow afternoons accompanied by the most tasteful wines. Songs wear their hearts on their sleeves, and films turn everyday life into grand, beautiful drama — a celebration of all the flavors life has to offer, big and small.

A special place in my heart belongs to Elba, an island of rugged coastlines, crystal-clear waters, and wild beauty — a place I have been visiting my entire life.
